About Us

Our Life in Pink

Karl and I began our journey together in the breathtaking Balearic Islands off eastern Spain working on board a luxury charter yacht.

We spent close to a decade on the super yacht circuit, enduring endless months in shipyards overseeing interior refits in Italy, France and Spain then finally finishing our tenure at sea on the epic 90m S/Y Athena, the largest private sailing yacht at the time, owned by US tech Billionaire Jim Clark.

We joined Athena in Holland when she was a mere shell and went on to win the prestigious Show Boats International Award in Monaco for the best interior sailing yacht, the year we delivered her.

At the time of the Yacht’s launch in Monaco we were simultaneously responsible for producing 200 pages of styled interiors alongside the acclaimed National Geographic photographer Louie Psihoyos for the hard-cover coffee table book, Athena.

We have designed custom knock-down luxury beach club settings for the 87m super yacht ACE built by Lürssen, in addition to a permanent designer furniture installation for a prestigious VIP beach club in Cannes on the French Riviera.

In 2010 we were contracted by the Qatari Royal Family to design, manufacture and deliver a fully furnished Royal canvas villa within the grounds of the Emir’s Palace in Doha.

This project consisted of a rigid 6 month timeline including a nine-day intensive install, with a monumental amount of moving parts – international freight management, custom furniture, the procurement of lighting, floor coverings and all the finishing touches for a luncheon gathering for 14 international dignitaries.

From Luxury Yachts to Exclusive Events.

In 2008 we moved our Head Office to Perth.

Cue Villa Kula Events a bespoke luxury event design company incorporating Royal canvas villas and beautiful designer furnishings.

Our design team successfully went on to produce tens of thousands of bespoke corporate event landscapes, luxury brand product launches & A-list weddings for clients spanning from Monaco to St Barth’s to New Zealand & the outback of Western Australia. Our event design team set the bar high and pathed the way for numbers of new boutique event businesses to blossom Australia wide. Fourteen years on and eleven custom furniture collections later we have come full circle.

Villa Kula & Villa Kula Concept Store

Our Full Circle Journey

Over the past 24 months in a very organic way Villa Kula has morphed back into permanent design for the hospitality and residential sector starting with a European beach club inspired refit of the Ocean Pool at the award winning Cable Beach Club Resort and Spa, followed by a refit of the resorts family pool and alfresco Asian fusion restaurant.

Most recently we designed five community hubs within the Claremont Quarter shopping precinct each with their very own unique personality, including a penthouse apartment inspired lounge, a luxurious library nook and a quirky teen retreat. This custom project consisted of commercial grade made to order designer rugs, bespoke furnishings and decor.

In November 2019 we made the commercial and very personal decision to focus wholly on residential and hospitality projects and say goodbye to our event management and design arm. It’s the end of an era for VK Events but an exciting new chapter for us as designers and we couldn’t be more excited.

Villa Kula is a family business & a surfing family. We have a strong connection with the ocean and share a passion for global interiors and design.
