our design approach

We understand that great design is the result of collaborating closely with our clients. Getting to know what you really want takes sincerity, innovative thinking, and experience. Our design approach is to truly understand your most important outcomes; for your room, new build or renovation then work to creatively deliver these outcomes.

Interior Decorating

Whether you’re moving into a new build, renovating the family home, or downsizing into an apartment (where none of your existing furniture will fit) styling and furnishing your new home can be an overwhelming task.

That’s where we step in.

We come into the picture pre or post move in to focus on bringing all the elements of your rooms together.  Generally speaking, interior decorating requires no structural change, plumbing or wiring. It’s just a straightforward process of us helping you to find the most aesthetically beautiful selections for your home.

We take the gravity of the situation off you and guide you through the process by assisting you with:

  • Floor planning
  • Furniture selection
  • Art and rug selection
  • Window treatments and lighting
  • Soft furnishings and homeware selection

We work closely with you to create a single room or entire home that is a cohesive beautiful space, reflective of you and your family.

Depending the scale of your project we might offer a flat fee or fixed rate (for a single room refresh) or for a more dynamic and complex project we would work with you in an hourly rate capacity that benefits both you, the client and the designer by ensuring flexibility, fairness, and transparency.

Interior-Decorating

Interior Design

Every interior design project is different and can range from a single room to an entire home fit out.  For this reason, we break the process down into stages allowing our clients to select the services they wish to sign on for.

Initial Consultation

Your initial 45-minute phone consultation with us is free.

During this meeting we encourage you to share imagery, inspo boards, even floor plans and be ready to ask us as many questions as you like around the process.  It’s a discovery session of sorts, where we work out if our ideas and ethos align with yours.

Stage One

Second Consultation / Defining the Scope of Work

Our second meeting is an opportunity for us to get to know each other even better. We want to understand more clearly how you and your family live in your space and what your expectations of the project are. We ask many questions and draft a basic outline of the scope of work.

We discuss your budget and formulate a wish list, prioritising your most important outcomes. You’re welcome to ask us further questions as it’s imperative, we feel comfortable working together from the start of the creative process.

Following on from our consultation phase and if in agreement to work together, we will provide you with our Design Service Proposal.

This document outlines your Primary and Secondary Design Projects, prioritising your most important outcomes.

Stage Two

Design Phase

On acceptance of our Design Service Proposal and based on what we've learned about your architectural plans and lifestyle we begin to develop your one-of-a-kind schematic design.

This is the creative part of the process where we work on a detailed room by room visual story board of how we envision your new room or home to look including scale floor plans, paint finishes, floor coverings, fixtures, fittings and furniture selections.

We work alongside our team of professional architects, builders, and cabinet makers to design your dream custom kitchen, laundry and bathrooms. Our services even extend to customising furniture.

We generally work by the hour, providing detailed reports & invoices for tasks completed on a fortnightly basis, this ensuring you are always aware of the progress of your Design Project.  In some instances, we provide you with a fixed cost for this phase.

On completion of the design phase we plan an exciting visual presentation at our studio or your residence to go through the project room by room to make final decisions on layout, furniture and fittings.

Stage Three

Procurement

Once everything is officially signed off with you, we move ahead with the procurement phase. We look after the sourcing, ordering, freight and storage (if required) of all of your furniture and effects to ensure a seamless installation of your products for when the time comes to move in.

Stage Four

Project Management

During this phase we oversee all our trades, whilst also managing the build timeline and budget. We will update you regularly with progress reports so that you are always up to speed with how the project is moving.

Stage Five

Delivery & Handover

It's finally here. The hand over and big reveal.

At VK we pride ourselves on our meticulous 'white glove' approach to every detail.

On this day we bring all the beautiful elements together. We oversee the placement of furniture, the presentation of every room and create all those finishing touches that make a home look and feel like a magazine cover!

On handover day we have everything you can imagine in place. Lights on, fresh flowers, the chilled champagne and canapés are of course, on us. On this celebrated day we hand over the keys to your extraordinary new home ready for you to move in and enjoy living.

Fee Structure

The most asked question we hear is “How much does an interior design project cost?”

Larger projects are typically more dynamic and complex, involving multiple phases, unforeseen challenges, and varying levels of involvement throughout. Our hourly rate approach ensures clients are billed only for the time spent on their specific needs, making the process transparent and adaptable. An hourly rate for larger projects benefits both the client and the designer by ensuring flexibility, fairness, and transparency. It allows for a tailored, responsive approach to design while accounting for the complexities and unpredictability of larger-scale work.

In the instance of refreshing a single room with clearly defined deliverables, we are often able to provide you with flat fee or fixed rate. We can pre-determine an estimate of the design fee based on the room size, complexity and scope of work.
